Giving your puppy a strong, confident start — before they even come home.
What is The Stay & Train Program
At Lovelocks, our Stay & Train program is an extension of the early foundation work we begin with every litter. It’s designed to gently guide your puppy through their first big learning milestones in a supportive, structured environment — while still being surrounded by familiar people, places, and routines.
These extra few weeks allow us to give your puppy even more time to build confidence, learn basic behaviours, and prepare emotionally for the transition to your home.
What We Cover
Each puppy is guided through early training and socialisation at a pace that aligns with their cognitive and emotional development. Success in each area is gentle and age-appropriate — the focus is on building understanding, not perfection.
We work on:
-
Crate/pen introduction
-
Sit, lay-down, wait, and 'place'
-
Recall foundations
-
Loose-leash introduction
-
Calmness and handler focus
-
Individual and group learning environments
Throughout, we reinforce the marker word “Yes” and continue to shape “sit for attention” as the puppy’s natural default behaviour.

Socialisation & Real World Exposure
Puppies in our Stay & Train program also experience:
-
Short, safe car trips
-
Positive interactions with new people
-
Urban exposure (typically including a pram walk through town to introduce gentle sounds and movement)
-
Age-appropriate social experiences with other puppies and older dogs
These early exposures are especially important during the critical socialisation period (up to 16 weeks), when puppies are forming their long-term views of the world.

Why This Matters
Australian Cobberdogs are highly intelligent and people-focused — this means they are wonderful to train, but also deeply attuned to their environment. Without early structure, they can become overly sensitive, frustrated, or even anxious.
Our Stay & Train program gives your puppy a head start, but your role continues. The first 12 months of a puppy’s life — especially the first 16 weeks — are vital in shaping their future behaviour.
We strongly encourage all families to enrol in:
-
Puppy school
-
Local obedience clubs
-
Ongoing structured socialisation
Is This Right For You?
Our Stay & Train program is ideal for families who:
-
Want a smoother transition into the home
-
Prefer extra help with the early training period
-
Would benefit from a confident, well-started puppy
It’s available by arrangement only and priced above our base puppy price due to the additional time, care, and resources involved.
