PUPPY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
At Lovelocks, raising a puppy is an active process. From birth, each puppy moves through a carefully designed developmental program that supports emotional regulation, confidence, connection, learning and independence.
The aim is not to create a perfectly trained eight-week-old puppy. It is to build the foundations that make future learning, settling and connection easier.

Canine Sensory & Enrichment Park
As they grow, they are gradually moved through a series of developmental zones, each designed to nurture specific stages of cognitive and emotional growth.
We don’t rush these transitions — we respond to each puppy’s readiness, giving them the best chance to build confidence without overwhelm.

Our puppies move through carefully planned spaces as their abilities develop, from the protected early environment through to increasingly complex areas for movement, play, learning and independence.

What These Foundations Mean For Your Puppy
Rest, Rhythm & Regulation
Puppies experience predictable cycles of activity, food, toileting and rest. We protect sleep, teach calm transitions and gradually help puppies learn how to settle rather than remaining constantly stimulated.
Confidence Without Overwhelm
Novel surfaces, sounds, objects, movement, people and environments are introduced thoughtfully. We increase challenge gradually, watching how each puppy responds rather than simply exposing them to as much as possible.
Communication & Early Learning
Long before formal obedience, puppies begin learning how communication works. Our marker word “Yes”, sit for attention, recall foundations and simple shaping teach puppies that engaging with people is rewarding and meaningful.
Independence & Connection
Our puppies are deeply connected to people, but we also teach them that being alone for short periods is safe. Pen and crate familiarity, independent rest and gradual separation help prepare them for the transition from litter life into a family home.

Matching Puppies With Families
We don’t take a first-come, first-served approach. Instead, we get to know our families—their lifestyle, preferences and hopes for life with their puppy—and we carefully match each puppy based on temperament, confidence, energy and connection.
Weeks of observation allow us to understand each puppy as an individual, helping us make thoughtful matches with the homes where they are most likely to thrive.
For local families, each litter also includes a Meet the Litter Day—an opportunity to meet the puppies, learn more about the breed and our program, see how our dogs live and connect with us face-to-face before go-home.
